By conservative estimate, 27 million people are enslaved today. Defined strictly as "forced work for no pay under the threat of violence," contemporary slavery includes forced labor, debt bondage, forced prostitution, and chattel slavery. Slavery is a global phenomenon, and instances of human bondage exist around the world.
The American Anti-Slavery Group, Inc. is the only organization in the Western Hemisphere solely dedicated to abolishing slavery worldwide. We monitor, publicize, and combat human bondage, focusing primarily on chattel slavery in North Africa and cases of involuntary servitude in the U.S.
Based in Boston, the historic center of the American abolitionist movement, we are committed to extending the wave of emancipation to millions who have been left behind.
